Collingully Cottage was built by my wonderful husband Mervyn and son Ashley so I could pursue my passion for patchwork and share the wonderful quietness of the country with all those other passionate patch workers out there.
It’s main purpose was for weekend retreats with a little bit of fabric, which as my regular visitors would know has now grown into well over 3000 bolts which includes a huge range of flannels.
It was built in 2002 and the first retreat was in September that year. Since then it has gone from strength to strength with the support of many groups that have travelled from as far as Albany and Geraldton and many places in between with our favourite lady from Victoria coming for their yearly or for some twice yearly visit to the barn, all of whom have seen the fabric stock grow with each visit. With the help of my very talented daughter Nahrae we manage to keep the ladies who come to stay for the weekend well fed with both food, fabric and everything in between. I am not sure what the future holds for us but if it is anything like the last 5 years I am sure the ride will be an exciting one.
On your arrival at the barn you will be greeted by an enthusiastic group of dogs, all bark and no bite!
There is also a very large fluffy ginger cat called Mangles who will want to be fed and patted. (He is banned when there are ladies at the barn who are allergic to cats, he will sit and look miserable at the door but he is used to being ignored when this happens)
I also have a new baby Kangaroo who will hopefully become a familiar face at the barn as she grows, at the moment she is still in a pouch and being fed every 4 hours but she does make a visit to the barn on the weekends for the ladies to meet her for cuddles and photos!
About Lynne...
I have been sewing since a very young girl learning on my grandmothers treadle machine of which I am now the proud owner. I was taught the finer details of dressmaking by my Girl Guide leader and made my own clothes and those of my children for many years until they grew up and no longer wanted pretty dresses made by mum!! So began my patchwork passion about 17 years ago with the making of my first log cabin baby bag for a friend. I am mostly self taught from books and doing lots of projects by mail and a few classes. I was asked by some local ladies to teach patchwork and although very hesitant at the time I went ahead and started classes in our local CWA. I became very good friends with Davena Watts in Perth who asked me to teach and work part time at Country Patchwork Cottage in Balcatta which then led to me wanting to do something from home as the trips to Perth each fortnight were fun but I am a real homebody. The rest is now history. We are now in our 9th year with the group that started in the CWA hall and some very great friendships have built from those first days when I did not really know what I was getting myself into! My daughter, Nahrae became interested in Patchwork when she was about 14 and now at the ripe old age of 22 I think she has made more quilts than me and has many more one the go and in the planning stage. Without her and her Dad’s continued help and support I know the barn would not be the success it has become. My husband, Mervyn is a favorite with all the ladies who come up and is a regular at morning and afternoon tea and is always up for a chat!
